Talking Social Media with Supermodel Jonathan Waud
Posted on Jun 16, 2009by Lori Dicker
KML had the chance to spend some time talking with Jonathan Waud, who recently appeared on Bravo’s Make Me a Supermodel Season 2. He not only won us over (we may be slightly biased)– he won over the fans by winning the vote for Favorite Model.
Since we love all things social media, we thought we’d take this opportunity to ask our favorite supermodel some questions about how he uses social media and the web to connect with his ever-growing fan base.
How active would you say you are online?
I love to be online but I’m always on the go so I don’t get as much surf time as I’d like. Thank goodness for mobile! When I am home, I do everything online– Facebook, banking, news, staying in touch with family. Everything.
What are your five favorite web sites you can’t live without?
Google is my home page, Style.com, Topgear.co.uk, iTunes, Facebook, oh and of course KARMA Media Labs! (laughs)
That’s funny. Thanks for that…! Have your online habits changed since being on Make Me a Supermodel?
Definitely, I now stay connected as much as I can on Twitter and Facebook. I had started a blog and really meant to update it the last few weeks but haven’t had the chance. Not enough time in the day! It’s all well intentioned, believe me. Check back in a few months… (laughs)
You’ve been getting some really great features in online publications and blogs. Do you pay a lot of attention to what is being said about you or your appearance on Make Me a Supermodel, either by bloggers or in fan forums?
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t read some of the things that are said about me, but thankfully the majority is very complimentary. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion so I welcome compliments and criticism. I’ve really enjoyed some of the interviews, one I got to talk about how I met my wife, another one was called Drinking With the Stars we slammed shots. Not kidding. In all seriousness, it’s been great.
For those who may not know, while you didn’t win the judges’ vote on Make Me a Supermodel, you got the most votes from viewers as their choice to win. Do you think social media played a part in your winning the fan vote?
I’m absolutely certain! It got people talking and got my name out there. God bless the web!
Yes! God bless it! Getting back to Facebook and Twitter - I see you have a fan page and a Twitter profile. Do you use Social Networks more for personal use to keep up with family and friends, or has it turned more into a way of communication with your fans?
It’s all of the above. Twitter for fun and fans and Facebook to stay in touch with everyone. I had a personal Facebook page to keep in touch with my family and friends. During Make Me a Supermodel, I saw that it was turning into a place for people to talk about the show, so I started a fan page a short time ago and use that as a place for my updates. People have been so incredibly supportive, it’s been amazing.
Do you take the time to read and respond to fan comments? If so, what kind of feedback have you been getting?
I have such a busy schedule balancing work and family but I always try to respond to fans. Their comments have been so great and flattering, they are the ones who got me the fan favorite win and I’m so grateful to all of them.
In addition to some of the interviews we’ve seen, we recently came across a great video produced by Undergear promoting their upcoming underwear catalog. Jonathan, that video seems to be making the rounds….(for those reading, the link is here).
How do you feel about the idea of photos and videos being distributed with you from modeling or, say, the episode from Make Me a Supermodel where clothing was not an option?
(Laughing) I’m comfortable with my body and as a model you know that you’re mainly selling a product but it’s great that people are taking such interest in the videos because I get a rare chance to show my true personality, which as a model in a picture is difficult.
How do you think you’ll be using social media in the future for your career?
Social media has been a great way to connect with fans of the show. Hopefully with future projects they’ll want to see more of me….. I hope!
We hope so too! Thanks so much for taking some time to “geek out” with us. It’s a subject near and dear to our hearts!
Thank you!
